Westerville Pack 966

As social networking explodes, Pack 966 has made a home on Facebook, the most widely used social networking site.  This is yet another avenue for the pack to communicate events and other important info to you and your scouts.  This web site will continue to be the primary online home for the pack and all of our important communication.

The Annual Pack 966 Pinewood Derby has changed dates due to a scheduling conflict.  The new date is Saturday February 20, 2010 in the Mark Twain Elementary gymnasium.  The change was necessary to allow us ample set-up time to have the same great event we had last year.

The website calendar and the downloadable version have been updated and printed copies will be available at the next pack meeting.

Last August set decorator Jon Grifith was looking for props for Safe Auto's next installment of the "Rocket Science" commercials when he heard through mutual friends on the social networking site Facebook, that Pack 966 just happened to have a 20' rocket in storage.  Pack Committee Chairman Marcus Wuebker and Grifith have been professional colleagues for nearly 10 years and when Grifith contacted Wuebker to arrange rental of the rocket, Wuebker and other Pack Leaders Paul Zaher, and Bob Phillips jumped at the chance.  The production company agreed to pay a rental fee equal to about the cost of 3 month's of storage for the 4th of July Parade float that was the hit of the parade last July in Westerville.  Phillips, who owns a photographic printing business also offered to print logos for the local auto insurance company to conspicuously placed on the rocket.

Many of the volunteers that worked on the float also donated their time to see that the rocket was safely picked up and returned by the production company.  Our thanks goes out to those volunteers once again for their dedication to Pack 966.

Below is commercial that has not yet seen airtime on television but is due to be released sometime this fall.

Pack 966 once again had the largest group at the Arrowhead District Annual Day Camp Aug. 4-6.  This year's theme was Walking with the Dinosaurs and Scouts participated in 15 sessions over the three days.  The activities at each station ranged from Fishing, Archery, and BB-Gun Shooting to building bird feeders, volcanoes, and banana boats!  If you asked the scouts what was their favorite activity, most said Archery or BB-Guns, and day camp is the only place scouts can earn those two belt loops.  But they all liked taking a shot at our Cubmaster, Paul Zaher, in the Dunk Tank!  The water was very cold that morning!  If you would like to see more pictures from day camp, please sign into your account and click here.

We would like to thank all the adults who volunteered their time and patience to walk with our scouts and keep them on task.  Everyone had a great time and are already talking about next year. 

We also would like to thank Mary McNitt for the hard work she put into designing both the Day Camp Tee-Shirt logo and the patch.  Every scout from Simon Kenton Council who attended Day Camp this year received a tee-shirt and patch both of which are a Pack 966 original!  That adds up to over 20,000 scouts! 

Pack 966 Scouts who attended day will receive their patches at our first Pack Meeting on 9/23.  We look forward to seeing all of you again and starting another great year of scouting here at Pack 966!
