Frequently Asked Questions - Kroger Community Rewards

The program, formerly named Kroger Cares, is a commitment from Kroger to donate back to the communities in which they operate. Kroger is donating up to $1.25 million each quarter to registered nonprofit organizations including Westerville Cub Scout Pack 966.

Kroger will make a donation to the pack each time a registered Kroger Plus Card is used to make a qualifying purchase.

No. The only thing you need to participate in the program is a Kroger Plus Card. There is no cost to get a card and they are available at the Customer Service desk inside any Kroger store.

Please see the enrollment instructions handout or the information posted on our website at http://www.westervillepack966.org/content/kroger-community-rewards

This program is designed for our group members, friends, supporters and family members. We are not allowed to solicit in front of a Kroger store or to the general public.

Minutes. We’ve created detailed step-by-step instructions to assist you but the process is really quite simple and can be easily accomplished in a very short amount of time.

Participating stores include all areas in Ohio except: Cincinnati, Dayton, and Springfield and also include: Lambertville, MI; Weirton, WV; and Wheeling, WV. A complete list can be found on the Kroger Community Rewards website at

Your purchases will begin earning rewards for the pack within 7 to 10 business days of registering your Kroger Plus Card online.

Within 7 to 10 business days of successfully registering your Kroger Plus Card, you will see at the bottom of your Kroger receipt “At your request, Kroger is donating to WESTERVILLE CUB SCOUT PACK 966”.

You can earn rewards on almost everything, every time you shop! However, there are specific purchases that cannot be included: alcohol, tobacco, government-assisted pharmacy expenses, postage stamps, Kroger gift cards and Green Dot Prepaid Cards, gift certificates, bottle deposits, lottery and promotional tickets, fuel, fuel center purchases, office services and Sales Tax. Eligible pharmacy purchases include out-of-pocket co-pays for non-government-assisted pharmacy programs.

No. Your Kroger Plus Card can be linked to only one organization at a time.

No. Participation is completely voluntary. We are offering this program to our friends and families as a way to help families pay for scouting and to help raise money for the pack.

See our Cubmaster for a scanbar handout. This is a barcode that can be scanned by the cashier (along with your Kroger Plus Card) the next time you go shopping at Kroger. Your Plus card will be automatically linked to Westerville Cub Scout Pack 966.
Note: when you register your card using this method, your future receipts will not print with the name of our organization.

Kroger distributes the donations on a quarterly basis using the following schedule:
• Quarter 1: May 1 – July 31: Statements and donations sent by August 31
• Quarter 2: August 1 – October 31: Statement and donations sent by November 30
• Quarter 3: November 1 – January 31: Statement and donations sent by February 28
• Quarter 4: February 1 – April 30: Statement and donations sent by May 31.

Up to 5% of your qualifying purchases will be donated back to Pack 966.

Most organizations that are registered with the Kroger Community Rewards program accept the donations and deposit the payments into their general fund. To support the launch of the program for Pack 966, we would like to reward the families who choose to participate by sharing the Kroger donations with those families.

Each family that registers for the program can create a MY SCOUT ACCOUNT within Pack 966 and the rewards from Kroger will be deposited as follows:
  • 80% of the amount donated to the pack under your Kroger Plus Card number will be deposited into your MY SCOUT ACCOUNT and available for your use
  • 20% of the amount donated to the pack under your Kroger Plus Card number will be deposited to the general fund of the pack.

This solution will both help families pay for scouting and help each scout fulfill their commitment from the Cub Scout Law of the Pack to “help the pack go”.

No. Contributions can be made to the pack without being designated to a particular scout. Any donations made to the pack where the Kroger Plus Card number is not assigned to a MY SCOUT ACCOUT will be deposited 100% into the pack’s general fund.

Submit the form pictured below or click here to register online.  This form will be available at all pack meetings.  Note that a scout can have multiple Kroger Plus Card numbers tied to his My SCOUT ACCOUNT. If you have extended family members or friends that have a separate Kroger Plus Card number, you will need to fill out an Account Setup Form for each different Kroger Plus Card.

We will have current account balance information on hand during all pack meetings and pack events where money is being collected at a registration table.

In order to pay for pack activities using your MY SCOUT ACCOUNT, we have created a redemption voucher that can be used in place of writing a check to Pack 966. The vouchers will be available at all pack meetings and pack events where money is collected at a registration table.

Vouchers can be used for anything that you can also be paid for by writing a check to Pack 966. Eligible activities include events such as; annual pack dues, Class B uniforms, Family Campouts, our annual popcorn fundraiser and the Blue and Gold Banquet.

Vouchers can not be redeemed for (or be used to reimburse) money paid directly to Simon Kenton Council or to any other companies that are hosting district or council events on behalf of the Boy Scouts of America. These types of activities include: Skate night at the Chiller, Campouts with the Crew or Clippers, Day Camp, Resident Camp, Sleepovers at COSI or the Zoo, events hosted by council at Camp Lazarus or Camp Falling Rock, etc.

Your MY SCOUT ACCOUNT will continue to grow as long as you continue to make eligible purchases using your Kroger Plus Card and as long as your son is registered with Pack 966. When your son leaves cub scouts, the money remaining in your MY SCOUT ACCOUNT will be transferred into the pack’s general fund.
